Pumpspeicherkraftwerk kap verde
6, 2024 (Lusa) — Cabo Verde's first pumped storage hydroelectric power station will start operating by 2028. Its power output is equivalent to more than a quarter of the largest (fuel-fired) power station on the island of Santiago. This flagship project supports Cabo Verde’s transition to clean energy by implementing a series of interconnected electricity generation, transmission, and storage projects under the National Electricity Masterplan (2018–2040). The Santiago Pumped Storage Project, which will be located in Chã Gonçalves, in the municipality of Ribeira Grande de Santiago and will cost around 60 million euros, promises to significantly increase energy storage capacity, thus making it possible to increase the country's electricity production. In order to be able to realize this vision it was necessary to create renewable energy storage capacity, being pumped-storage the most efficient way to store large amounts of energy.
