The objective of this Project is to maximize the use of the energy produced by Solar Power Plants (SPP) to further reduce the use of thermal power, by implementing a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the Caracol Industrial Park of Haiti. The investment grant HA-G1048 ("the project") builds upon the program 4900/GR-HA and GRT/CF-17708-HA ("Improving Electricity Access in Haiti"). Port-au-Prince, Haiti, March 18, 2025 – In a significant move to strengthen Haiti’s recovery efforts and energy security, IFC - a member of the World Bank Group - and IDB Invest - the private sector arm of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)- announced a US$13. The Project aims to develop 22 community-scale solar plus battery storage micro-grids in southern Haiti in communities where currently no grid power exists. The sun shines over Haiti for 2,800 hours yearly, yet more than 60% of its people lack reliable electricity. High costs, an unstable grid, and frequent natural disasters force families and businesses to rely on expensive, polluting diesel generators.
